Of course Cornell is a world renowned university, so students and faculty come from far and wide to participate in the exciting opportunities this university can offer. For international students and staff wanting to apply to the college, annual reports can be helpful to understand the international population at the college of choice. For American students, annual reports can be useful in the same way and can be especially important if you want to study in a 'global campus' on American soil.
I wanted to take a look at their annual report to get an idea of how it is structured and learn a little about their International Students Department. I tried to find the annual report for 'study abroad' programs, which is situated in a different office, but the site was down during this research session.
Findings of my interest:
The look and feel of the first two pages I like very much. It has a separate cover page and the first page has the address, phone number, web address, logo, staff names and this is followed up by the table of contents.
The writers have gone through a lot of trouble to break down stats based on department, which can be challenging in some colleges where this information may not be centralized.
I like the color coded maps throughout, it is not only visually appealing but allows for one to quickly browse the report and still collect information without spending a lot of time looking at fine print.
I particularly like the section entitled "International Academic Staff." This further highlights the integration of international participants not only as students but as teachers teaching the 'American' students as well as the international students.
